~ 2. fejezet
“Someday,” she said, leaning toward Cedric, “someday you shall call me Molly. And you’ll never go back to calling me…Mary.”~ 4. fejezet
“I beg to differ.” He slurped at his wine.
“I beg to differ.”
“You can’t. I already did.” He set his goblet down with a thunk.
“We both can. You don’t have a license to differ alone.”
Cedric scoffed. “You make no sen-sh.”
“I beg to differ,” she said.
“I’m sorry. A lady doesn’t hit people. Even though you deserve it, cavorting with a woman who’s no lady at all, running off with any man she sees!”~ 5. fejezet
He scoffed. “Are you telling me you’re a lady? You put a thistle in my seat and a rock in my wine goblet last time I dined at Marble Hill.”
“That was a long time ago.”
“It was at Penelope and Roderick’s bon voyage celebration before they took the girls to Italy. Barely four months ago.”
“I should like to discuss this house party. Who will be there?”~ 6. fejezet
Harry shifted in his seat. “You already know of most of them if you read the London papers.”
“I’m not supposed to,” said Molly. “Papa says they give me ideas.”
“Which means you read them anyway, don’t you?”
“I don’t want to kiss you, Harry.”~ 7. fejezet
He rolled his eyes. “It doesn’t have to mean anything.”
“Are you sure?”
“Quite.” Harry strove to sound like an old, trusted friend. “A kiss is simply a kiss. Two mouths meeting. Nothing to fear.”
She appeared to be thinking. “I do kiss my horse sometimes,” she said. “Usually on the nose, but”—she put her hand to her mouth—“once I kissed him on the lips.”
She laughed outright. Some would say in a charming manner.
Not Harry, of course. But he could give her, at the very least, a modicum of a smile. “Kissing a man might be slightly different from kissing a horse,” he said, attempting to match her lighthearted tone.
Harry sighed. “Men like biddable women, Molly. Someone they don’t have to take too seriously, someone who entertains them but knows when to leave them to their other duties and interests.”~ 11. fejezet
“Then I’m disgusted with all men.”
She was to be excused for feeling all mushy inside when she thought of Harry kissing her.~ 20. fejezet
But she couldn’t let those mushy feelings continue. She must cease them immediately. So she thought about the time a much younger Harry had planted all her dolls head-first in a little vegetable garden she’d cultivated long ago.
That got her blood up.
Oh, God. He squeezed his eyes shut and tried to remember the Magna Carta. Or…or anything.~ 26. fejezet
Anything but what Molly was doing to him now.
“Touching you here excites me like almost nothing else,” she whispered in his ear. (…)
He opened his eyes and groaned. “If only you knew how much it excites me when you touch me there.”
She heard the smile in his voice and let out a shuddering breath. “Once again, I—I don’t know what to say.”~ 27. fejezet
“Say nothing,” he said warmly. “Leaving a woman speechless is every man’s greatest delight.”
She lowered the paper. “That’s Emma! You’ve read it, haven’t you? It’s not been out long.”
“I can’t say that I have,” Harry confessed.
“Oh, but it’s wonderful!” Molly wriggled in her seat. “It’s all about this girl, Emma, who gets in the middle of everyone’s business because she thinks she knows best—”
“Wait. Are you sure it’s not called Molly?”
